The two refugees from Burma who have claimed that they have committed crime against humanity have retracted their statement in the Australian media.

In July, Htoo Htoo Han told Australian Associated Press that he had shot 24 demonstrators in 1988 and had also involved in other cases which led to about 100 people death during the uprising in Burma.

After a week of Han confession, Moon Hsar admitted that he has killed 40 to 50 Karen people.

Both men have claimed that they worked for Burmese military intelligence when they committed the crimes.

Most Burmese community in exile doubt about the two men claims though it left unanswered questions whether they were actual members of Burmese military intelligence and committed the killing during 8888 uprising in Burma.

Some Burmese who know well about Htoo Htoo Han said that he was seeking media attention as his previous political activities revealed that he will do everything if he will get media attention. ‘Htoo Htoo Han is a one man show’ reported the Irrawaddy.

Although the two men withdraw their crimes’ statements it remains unclear whether the two men are clear of crime records unless their cases are thoroughly investigated by Australia Federal Police.

Burma political cases are complex as stated by Bob Elson, a professor of the University of Queensland.

Ethnic armed groups often face dispute among them due to misinformed by the Burmese military intelligence. Burmese military regime used divided and rule tactics in ethnic armed groups.

A Burmese at China-Burma border said that there could be many members of Burmese military intelligence outside the country who are not under the control of General Than Shwe. They belonged to former intelligence Chief Khin Nyunt’s group.

After Khin Nyunt lost his power, some of his members were detained and some disappeared and some left the country said a man who lives at China-Burma border and he requested to be unnamed.
