The Defense Minister of Myanmar has vocally admitted last Saturday that they have stopped doing research works and studies pertaining to nuclear programs and that it moved out from further military close ties with North Korea, Reuters report said.

Reports that were gathered two years ago revealed that Burma has been acquiring technology that concerns uranium and other related matters on nuclear weapons from North Korea. This came out in the open when an army major was interviewed and disclosed all what he knew since he is among those involved in the activity and he even got documentations about it.

Defense Minister Lieutenant General Hla Min explained at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a yearly security forum held in Singapore which are participated by military leaders and senior regional civilian that the main intention of the nuclear program is made only for research and review purposes and nothing else. It was just blown out of proportion by the media, he said.

Though he admitted that in the past years, they have been in communication with North Korea and this to him is just quite common since they have to established relationships with other countries. But since reforms have been sweeping positively in Burma and at the same time Western Union and international communities have lifted various sanctions, this marked the stoppage of ties between Burma and North Korea, said news report from Reuters.

The fact that various foreign investors are enticed in doing business and trade in Burma, this development has to be guarded and be part of the progress Burma is greatly taking part in. But a certain source said that U.N. panel of experts is trying to investigate what appears to be a possible weapon related activity between Syria, Pyongyang and Burma as disclosed in a confidential report, the news said.

However, they are confident in saying that the studies on nuclear activities has never reached far beyond and they have no intention to further any studies, research and evaluations. Since the 25% of parliamentary seats under the new constitution is already allocated, it will play a vital role in drafting laws for the transformation and development of the country, according to Reuters report.
