Jackie Chan, a world famous movie star and extreme supporter of a charity stated during an interview with Xinhua that children are the hope of the future. It is therefore important that children deserve proper love and care, the right to basic education, and must be given appropriate attention and guidance.
His interview was held in Sedona Hotel in Yangon before his much awaited three day visit to Myanmar on July 5-7 as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador on a conference regarding the fight against child trafficking, according to news reported from Xinhua.
Last Thursday, he arrived in Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar and made rounds in various vocational training centers and schools before going to Yangon by Saturday.
It has been 30 years of his life that he has been doing charity works and his area of concern, responsibility and attention is mainly on children with disability, children with no education and children without homes and this mission is even growing.
Being the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for eight years, he had visited different countries including trips which he chooses for himself like for instance Myanmar and he’s also considering Afghanistan as his next target and in areas where war evidently occur.
With his interactions with the kids in Myanmar he persuaded them to have education for the betterment of their lives, and not to be ignorant when it comes to their rights. With education they can also develop their skills and potentials and with family who will take care of them, Xinhua news reported.
Jackie Chan has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2004, using his prestige as a means of promoting humanitarian cause for the most disadvantaged children.
The stories he learned from children who experienced injustice like child trafficking and has survived the difficulties and pains they went through inspired him a lot that’s the reason why he pushes for the basic rights of children particular the right to education.
He also asked the help of the media to interfere in exposing child trafficking which is considered a terrible crime since these kids have the right to be defended and assisted also by the government.
Furthermore, he said to the press that children should be given the opportunity for play and leisure and to live in a peaceful community.
