Gas blasts in cement plant

An incident of gas explosion was reported in Magway region believed to be a hydrogen peroxide chemical plant in Chauk. The explosion took place last Thursday at around 1:00 p.m. local time.

According to sources, the explosion was heard at a distance of 5 kilometres from where it happened. It is said that the chemical plant which is situated between Yedwin and Sichopin villages is where the supply of hydrogen peroxide gas are kept. The authorities are now conducting investigations on how the explosion started, according to Xinhua’s report.

Officials and personnel from the Red Cross immediately rushed to the place where they received complaint of chest pains and difficulty in breathing experienced by the people and rescue team made up of firemen also helped in the operation. They facilitated the evacuation of people and families living in nearby villages to a safer location.

The authorities have not yet identified if there were casualties in this violent explosion, the report said.
